South Africa's Hidden Wonders
Beyond the Horizon Journey of Beauty, Adventure, and Luxury
5 - 18 September 2026
14 Days | Cape Peninsula & Cape of Good Hope | West Coast & Cederberg | Winelands | Whale Coast & Penguins | The Greate Kruger Safari Finale
Journey Overview
This privately guided journey traces a remarkable arc through Southern Africa at its most beautiful: from Cape Town’s iconic landmarks and the wild Atlantic coast, to West Coast lagoons and historic farmsteads, the flowering Cederberg, the elegance of the Winelands, the fynbos‑rich Whale Coast, and finally the tranquil waterways and wildlife of the Botswana’s Okavango Delta.
Carefully timed between 20 August and 30 September, it is designed to showcase three seasonal highlights in a single seamless experience: Namaqualand’s wildflowers, southern right whales along the Cape coast, and the Okavango in its prime flood season.

Throughout, you stay in hand‑picked, small‑scale luxury properties and travel mostly by road in the Cape, with a single regional flight connection to you safari finale.
Day 1 – Arrival in Cape Town

Accommodation: Tintswalo Atlantic – 5★ boutique oceanfront
On arrival in Cape Town, you are met airside (where available) and assisted through formalities. A private transfer brings you along the Atlantic coastline to your base on the foothills of the famous Chapmans Peak, with sweeping sea and mountain views.
The remainder of the day is at leisure to rest, adjust to the time zone, and take in the views. Depending on arrival time, you may enjoy a short orientation drive along Chapman’s Peak Drive or a Full Peninsula Helicopter Flight to ignite your senses for what is to come or simply relax before a welcome dinner.

Today you explore the iconic Cape Peninsula in full:
-
Atlantic Seaboard: often called the city’s riviera—a dramatic sweep of coastline where mountains drop into the cold, glittering Atlantic. From tidal pools and promenades to white‑sand beaches and some of Africa’s most coveted addresses, it is the perfect introduction to the Cape’s blend of wild beauty and sophistication.
-
Table Mountain: Weather permitting, you ascend by cableway to the summit, with panoramic views across the city, Table Bay and the Twelve Apostles.
-
Chapman’s Peak Drive: Continue along one of the world’s most scenic coastal roads, carved into sheer cliffs above the Atlantic.
-
Cape of Good Hope: Visit the legendary headland within the Cape of Good Hope section of Table Mountain National Park, walking short trails to lookout points and lighthouses.
-
Penguin Colony: Stop at a sheltered beach home to a colony of African penguins. Boardwalks allow close, unobtrusive viewing of these charismatic birds as they waddle, preen and swim.
A relaxed drive returns you to Hout Bay by early evening. Evening at leisure with dinner either at the lodge or a nearby restaurant, according to your preferences.
-
Recomendations:

Accommodation: Historic Farm House, Langebaan area
Depart Hout Bay after breakfast and follow the coastline north toward the West Coast. The landscape opens onto a turquoise lagoon edged by white sand, a calm, sheltered stretch of coast noted for its birdlife and wide skies.
Season‑dependent, nearby reserves and dunes may be fringed with wildflowers, offering early glimpses of the Cape’s spring display.
By afternoon you arrive at a historic farmhouse near Langebaan, chosen for its character and sense of place. You have time to walk on the property, hear something of its history, and enjoy a simple, home‑style dinner.
Included: Breakfast, private road transfer, sightseeing en route

Days 4–5 – Cederberg & Namaqualand – Rock, Stars & Flowers
Accommodation: Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat (Cederberg) – 5★
Travel inland into the rugged sandstone mountains of the Cederberg, arriving at your wilderness retreat in time for lunch or afternoon tea.
Over two nights you experience:
-
Guided Nature Drives & Walks: Explore a landscape of sculpted rock formations, clear streams and endemic fynbos.
-
Wildflower Excursions (in season): Depending on the bloom, your guides select routes into surrounding Namaqualand areas where fields of daisies and other species create vast, colourful displays.
-
Rock Art Viewing: Optional guided visits to ancient San rock art sites, with interpretation of the culture and symbolism.
-
Stargazing: Exceptionally clear night skies offer superb opportunities for naked‑eye and telescope stargazing.
Meals are gourmet and largely farm‑to‑table, enjoyed in the dining room, under the stars or at special locations on the reserve.
Included (per day): Breakfast, lunch, dinner, scheduled lodge activities, park/conservation fees.

Days 6–7 – Franschhoek Winelands – Heritage & Wine
Accommodation: La Residence, Franschhoek – 5★ luxury manor
Depart the Cederberg mid‑morning for a scenic drive into the Cape Winelands, arriving in the Franschhoek valley in the late afternoon. La Residence, set among vineyards and orchards, will be your base for two nights.
Over these days you enjoy:
-
Private Wine Tastings: Visits to carefully selected estates for cellar tours and tastings, tailored to your wine interests (classic blends, old vines, etc.).
-
Highly Recomended:
-
-
Gastronomy: Long lunches and dinners in the valley, pairing local produce with acclaimed wines.
-
Village & Valley Time: Time to stroll through Franschhoek village (galleries, boutiques, chocolate and cheese tastings) or simply relax at the property with views over vines and mountains.
These days provide a gentle, indulgent interlude between the more wilderness‑focused chapters of your journey.
Included (per day): Breakfast, curated tastings and touring.

Days 8–10 – Grootbos & the Whale Coast – Whales, Fynbos & Ocean Views
Accommodation: Grootbos Private Nature Reserve – 5★
You travel by road to the Whale Coast, arriving at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve overlooking Walker Bay. The 3‑night stay is intentional: it builds in flexibility for whale‑watching and marine activities in case weather or sea conditions are temporarily unfavourable on a given day.
Across these three days, your program (tailored on arrival) may include:
-
Land‑Based Whale Watching: In season, southern right whales come extraordinarily close to shore. From elevated viewpoints on the reserve and nearby coast, you may see breaching, tail‑slapping and nursing behaviour.
-
Guided Fynbos & 4×4 Flower Safaris: Explore the reserve’s extraordinary floral diversity, learning about the Cape Floral Kingdom and the conservation work underway.
-
Beach & Dune Outings: Walk on wide, unspoilt beaches and explore ancient dune systems and coastal caves (tide and weather permitting).
-
Optional Marine Boat Trip: Weather and sea‑state permitting, an optional boat‑based excursion may be arranged to view whales, dolphins and marine birdlife from the water.
-
Optional Horse Riding on a pristine white beach.
Evenings offer refined dining with panoramic coastal views, and time to reflect on the journey so far.
Included (per day): Breakfast, lunch, dinner, scheduled Grootbos activities, park/conservation fees, whale watching & Marine Safari.

Days 11–13 – Private Kruger Concession, South Africa – Sweni Lodge Safari Finale
Accommodation: Sweni Lodge, Private Kruger Concession

Your three‑night stay at Sweni offers an intimate, high‑end safari experience:

Optional guided bush walks may be offered, conditions permitting.
-
Wildlife & Landscape – The mix of riverine forest, rocky ridges and open plains provides varied habitats and consistently rewarding sightings, with few other vehicles in view.
-
Lodge Experience – Sweni is deliberately small and discreet, with a contemporary, nature‑inspired design. Suites are tucked into the trees overlooking the river, each with a private deck and generous comfort. Service is highly personalised, with refined cuisine and a calm, unhurried atmosphere.
Each day follows a classic safari rhythm: early morning drive and coffee stop in the bush, brunch back at the lodge, quiet time to rest or book optional spa treatments, followed by an afternoon/evening drive ending with sundowners and a night drive back to camp. Dinners are served under the stars, on the deck or in the dining area, accompanied by fine South African wines.
