September South Africa: Whales, Wildflowers, Big Six Await

September in South Africa is pure magic: witness Southern Right whales breaching along pristine coasts, walk through hills exploding with wildflowers, and track the Big Six—lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, buffalo, and great white shark—all in one golden, crowd-free month of crisp skies, soft light, and unforgettable beauty.

Legacy-Level Luxury: Invitation‑Only Journeys for Those Who Already Have Everything

Step into a world where your time, privacy, and legacy are treated as the rarest assets you own. This is not another safari or off‑the‑shelf “experience” – it’s an invitation‑only journey personally architected by the quiet partner behind presidents, royalty, and global families who think in generations, not quarters. With 6,000+ days in the field and over $400M in real‑asset investments stewarded, I fuse ultra‑luxury African travel with institutional‑grade discipline: emptied‑out plains instead of crowds, private reserves instead of public itineraries, and journeys that double as due‑diligence retreats for those who move serious capital. Every detail is handled with absolute discretion – from security and logistics to private jets, cellar‑key tastings, and hidden estates far beyond the reach of Google or mass luxury brands. If you are accustomed to writing eight‑figure cheques, but unwilling to compromise on soul, safety, or significance, this is where your next chapter begins.

Southern Africa is easy to visit. It’s very hard to do properly

Southern Africa, an all year round destination

People often ask me: When is the best time to visit Southern Africa?
The honest answer: there is always a best time.

Southern Africa is a 365‑day destination because north and south work in perfect counterpoint. In the south, the Western Cape’s Mediterranean climate is at its best from September to April—my preferred months are February and early September: whales along the coast, wild flowers in bloom, and long golden evenings in the winelands and on the Atlantic seaboard.

Further north, in prime safari territory, the sweet spot is May to September: clear skies, low humidity, cool mornings and evenings, and exceptional game viewing as water becomes scarce.

If I had to choose one month for the whole region, it would be early September: whales, wild flowers, Namibia’s dunes and exceptional safari, just before the rains and heat return.

Southern Africa has no shortage of beautiful places.
But the most extraordinary experiences are never advertised.

For over 40 years I’ve been building relationships that quietly open the right doors: emptied plains where it’s just your vehicle and the wildlife, private barrel‑room tastings with the winemaker, heritage estates hosted by the families who shaped them.

Every journey I design is composed as a private commission—built around your passions, not a template.

Not “another nice trip to Africa.”
A once‑in‑a‑lifetime journey that quietly resets what you think travel can do for your mind, your family, and your sense of perspective.
In this video, I share 5 lodges in 5 different countries that together tell one truth:
Wildlife knows no borders. Nature moves freely across invisible lines.
Each stop is chosen not just for beauty and comfort, but for feeling.
Five countries. Five very different vistas.
One story: a connected, resilient Africa that restores your sense of what matters.
This is the Africa I love designing journeys around for UHNW families and couples who want:
Complete safety and calm, with meticulous logistics
Privacy, discretion, and space to think
If you’re considering Africa in the next 12–24 months and would like to explore what a journey like this could look like for your family or as a couple, I’ll stitch these threads into one coherent, soul‑restoring safari tailored to you.
Friends for Life

Over the years, the kindest thing guests have said to me is that I stopped feeling like a guide and started feeling like family.

I’ve been called ‘a gracious ambassador for this breathtaking part of the world’, ‘a knowledge‑feeder, older brother and friend’, and told that our journeys felt like ‘a virtual university course’ wrapped in the trip of a lifetime.

Families I’ve guided have gone home and invited me into their homes in New York, Los Angeles, the Hamptons, Milan, Hong Kong, Sydney, Amsterdam, Monte Carlo, Lyford Cay and beyond. For me, that level of trust matters more than any brochure or award.

If you’d like Southern Africa, by private invitation, guided by someone who takes your journey as personally as you do, send me a private message and let’s talk about your chapter here.
Many of my guests arrive in Southern Africa believing they’ve already ‘done safari.

Many of my guests arrive in Southern Africa believing they’ve already ‘done safari’.

They haven’t done this.

Over the last 40+ years I’ve been quietly reimagining safari for families, entrepreneurs and world leaders who don’t do ordinary: emptied plains with no other vehicles in sight, helicopters at first light over dunes, walking safaris with master guides, and entire camps taken privately for one family.

We match ecosystems, seasons and pace to who you are, how you travel, and what this journey should mean in your life. Nothing is off the shelf.

Luxury travel, on its own, has never been enough for me

Alongside four decades in private travel, I’ve served as chairman of a financial management company overseeing more than 18,000 companies, trusts and foundations, spent over 250 hours in Air & Sea Rescue operations in South Africa, and helped build community projects like the clubhouse and classroom for Songo.info when there was nothing there.

Those experiences shape how I design journeys.

Yes, we stay in exceptional places and have extraordinary access. But I’m just as interested in what the journey means for you and your family—how it connects you to the land, to its people, and to the legacy you want to leave.

For some guests that means supporting education or conservation. For others, it’s a quiet encounter in a community that stays with them long after they’ve gone home.

“We thought we’d ‘done’ luxury travel… then South Africa with Visitors to Africa quietly reset the bar.”
You can buy 5‑star hotels anywhere. What’s rare is absolute peace of mind, intelligent context, and truly private, meaningful experiences in a destination many still find intimidating.
That’s where Visitors to Africa (VTA) comes in.

One recent client reflected on their 3‑week journey:
