The idea
Most journeys through this part of the world are arranged around what is beautiful. This one is arranged around what happened.
Fourteen days, by private aircraft, from the Atlantic to the Zambezi. Robben Island before Mandela — the Khoisan prisoners, the leprosy colony, the four centuries the guidebooks skip. A wine estate's slave ledger, read in the cellar it was written in. The ridge at Isandlwana, where a British army was destroyed by men with spears, walked with a historian and with Zulu descendants who tell it differently. The Big Hole at Kimberley, and the accounting behind it. Swakopmund, and the first genocide of the twentieth century. Then the Okavango, and the Zambezi, and the question of what any of it was for.
It is not a difficult journey to take. It is a difficult journey to stop thinking about.
Why this one is hard to arrange
Anyone can book a battlefield tour. What this journey needs is people.
A historian who has guided the Anglo-Zulu battlefields for over twenty years, and walks them with Zulu descendants who tell it differently. A curator in Kimberley who opens the archive after hours. A fifth-generation vintner who will take you down to the cellar and show you the estate's slave ledgers, in the room where they were written. Elders in the Kalahari who decide what is theirs to share and what isn't.
A fixed contribution per traveller goes to the community trusts we work with in Namibia and KwaZulu-Natal. What is shared, and how, is theirs to decide — not ours, and not yours.
That is thirty-five years of relationships. It is not a supplier list, and it cannot be assembled from one.
How it moves
Days 1–4 · The Cape. The peninsula from the air, Robben Island by private boat and without the crowds, then into Constantia and Franschhoek — the vineyards, and the ground they were taken from. Tintswalo Atlantic, then La Residence.
Days 5–6 · KwaZulu-Natal. Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. Two days on the ground with people who have spent their lives on it. You sleep looking at the mountain.
Day 7 · Kimberley. The Big Hole, the archives, the boardrooms. A city built entirely on one idea about who owns what is underneath the ground.
Days 8–9 · Namibia. The Kalahari, and star-lore that predates every empire in this itinerary. Then the rock art, and the coast, and Swakopmund.
Days 10–11 · The Okavango. Deliberately, no history at all. Two days of water, light and animals, because you will need them.
Days 12–13 · Mosi-oa-Tunya. The falls from the air, the Tokaleya name for them and the reason it isn't the one on the map. Devil's Pool if the water allows.
Day 14 · Home. A chronicle of the journey follows some weeks later — maps, images, and the words of the people you met.
Who it's for
Four to six people. Usually a family travelling together, sometimes two couples, occasionally a group of friends who have run out of places that interest them.
It suits people who read. It does not suit anyone looking for a holiday — the Okavango days aside, this is a demanding two weeks, and it is meant to be.
Children under sixteen aren't a good fit for the battlefields or Swakopmund.
What it isn't
It isn't a tour of suffering, and the comfortable parts aren't there to soften the rest. You travel by private aircraft because the distances are absurd otherwise, and because two weeks spent in transit is two weeks not spent listening to anyone.
The luxury is a means of moving. It isn't the argument.

Every one of these is built around specific people at a specific moment. The same fourteen days are a different journey for a family of four and for two couples marking something. A single "from USD X" would be fiction.
