A Year in Motion
For more than 35 years, I’ve spent my days on the road across Southern Africa and the wider world, watching landscapes quietly change people.
This year, I began turning those days into a twelve-volume series:
A Year in Motion — 365 Days in Southern Africa
One book for each month.
One chapter for each day.
Each chapter a single, living moment.
Some stories come from journeys with guests; others from days spent alone on the road. All are real. No fiction—only the world as I’ve seen it from the front seat, the stoep, the saddle and the cockpit.
I chose to begin with my favourite month: September.
Volume 9, September Tides, is now complete.
The other eleven months are still to come. Over the months ahead, I’ll write the rest of the year on paper—January storms, July frosts, March migrations, November heat—until all twelve books are finished.
If you’ve travelled with me before, you may one day recognise your own morning, your river or your lion sighting in these pages. And if you haven’t yet, September is the first invitation: a chance to imagine what your days here might look like before we go and live them.
